Our client is the leading private provider of medical laboratory services and part of one of the largest medical laboratory groups in Europe. They perform over 1.5 million patient tests every year for more than 1,000 client organizations throughout the country. They are a medically led and ISO accredited company dedicated to delivering accurate and reliable medical laboratory results that help healthcare professionals diagnose, treat and prevent disease.

Due to expansion, they are currently recruiting for a Microbiology Medical Scientist on a full time (or part-time basis) for one year contract.

Reporting to Senior Medical Scientist in Microbiology, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Performing all activities related to the receipt, analytical testing and reporting of laboratory specimens appropriate to a Medical Microbiology laboratory
  • Evaluating results and communicate with Laboratory Management, Consultant Pathologist and/or the requesting clinician any relevant information regarding patient safety
  • Participating in the Microbiology quality assurance programmes in compliance with ISO 15189 requirements and Health and Safety legislation
  • Assisting in reagent and general stock control related to the microbiology area
  • Carrying out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures
  • Providing input into maintaining policies and procedures, review and update as required
Qualifications/ Experience:
  • BSc in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Current registration with the relevant professional body as Medical Scientist
  • Relevant experience in a medical laboratory (microbiology) – 2 years preferable
