Our client, a global pharmaceutical organisation are currently recruiting for a Scientific Communications Publication Technical Advisor to join their team. As Publication Capability Lead you will help drive launch and publication capabilities and operational excellence for the Global Scientific Communications Group.


  • Function as an expert on the publication medical writing, publication processes and practices, including authorship, transparency and ethics
  • Consults and advise site publication writers on issue management and escalation
  • Represent the group to applicable committees where functional publication leadership topics are discussed
  • Expert in external/internal procedures governing work
  • Carefully study, develop and maintain expertise on the publication environment (and other communication channels), including monitoring relevant congresses/journals and competitor publication strategies/activities
  • Develop close, cross-functional relationships with development/medical affairs and other communications experts within the organsiation including the global Advisor for Publication Strategy and Launch Capabilities
  • Use external and internal insights to identify emerging trends, needs, and requirements to inform, develop, and refine launch and publication strategies
  • Responsible for monitoring and continually improving publication capabilities by working closely with publication teams and observing processes and outcomes throughout the development and delivery of publication plans (including peer review as appropriate)
  • Ensures compliance with internal and external standards and serves as a subject matter expert on publication policies for publication writers
  • Involvement in the development of industry standards through collaborations with external organizations, professional societies, vendors, and other relevant stakeholder groups (e.g., ISMPP).
  • Participate in external initiatives to foster trust and respect among the academic and medical publishing communities


  • Bachelor’s degree in scientific, health, communications, or technology related field
  • 5 years professional publication medical writing experience
  • Successful completion of the writing exercise

Additional Skills/Preferences

  • Advanced degree (MBBS, MD, PharmD, PhD, MPH) in a scientific, communications, or technology related field
  • General medical or scientific background with strong communication skills and a working knowledge of regulatory requirements, commercialization concepts, and evolving technologies
  • Certification as a Medical Publication Professional (CMPP)
  • Experience/involvement with publication planning, strategy and tactical execution
  • Recognized internally as an expert in writing publication documents
  • Expert knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, scientific communications, external environment, global marketplace, and scientific communities
  • Expert knowledge of good publication practices, including external guidelines and industry standards
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal)
  • Good working knowledge of tools and evolving technologies and their applications
  • Demonstrated ability to take strategic knowledge, look for opportunities, and effectively influence the direction of daily operations
  • Demonstrated ability to embrace strategic decisions made throughout the organization and drive the necessary change needed to achieve business productivity and effectiveness goals across people, process and tools
  • Ability to work successfully across global components in a matrix organization, focus externally, and significantly change business models in a highly matrix organization, driving organizational change through influence
