Laboratory Technician – Microbiology & Allergen Testing
Our client is an established, internationally recognized Contract Research Organisation (CRO) specializing in indoor air quality, bioaerosol science, and environmental contaminant testing.

Operating cutting-edge environmental test chambers and accredited testing suites, they partner with leading global consumer, filtration, and healthcare brands to generate independent data validating product claims.

They are currently seeking a motivated, detail-driven Laboratory Technician to join their multidisciplinary technical team on a permanent basis. This role works across both the Microbiology and Allergen laboratories, offering rare dual-discipline bench exposure in a specialized sector.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Dual-Discipline Growth: Cross-train and build hands-on testing competence across both microbiological and allergen assays, significantly expanding your career options.
  • Accredited Quality Standards: Gain robust, transferable quality systems experience working within an active ISO 17025:2017 framework.
  • Specialized Science: Move beyond generic high-throughput screening to work on high-impact studies investigating airborne pathogens, bioaerosols, and surface allergens under simulated real-world conditions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Testing Execution: Perform routine and custom microbiological and allergen testing protocols in strict compliance with SOPs, risk assessments, and project test plans.
  • Dual-Suite Operations: Flexibly alternate daily tasks between microbiology and allergen testing suites according to testing schedules and client project deadlines.
  • Sample Custody & Bio-Handling: Safely receive, prepare, label, log, and track biological samples and test stocks, including BSL-1 and BSL-2 materials, maintaining full chain-of-custody records.
  • Documentation & Data Integrity: Accurately complete worksheets, calculations, raw data logs, and sample tracking records to ISO 17025 standards.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Carry out routine cleaning, calibration, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory apparatus, escalating complex technical issues to Senior Scientists.
  • Aseptic & Quality Control: Apply rigorous aseptic techniques, enforce contamination controls, and assist with method verification and document reviews (SOPs/forms).
Candidate Profile
Qualifications & Experience:
  • B.Sc. or equivalent in Microbiology, Biomedical Science, Biological Science, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1–2 years of practical laboratory experience in an accredited testing facility, commercial CRO, or regulated industrial environment (relevant 6–12 month accredited industrial placement will be considered).
  • Familiarity with working under a formal Quality Management System (ISO 17025 exposure is a distinct advantage).

Key Skills & Attributes:
  • Strong practical foundation in aseptic techniques, culturing/enumeration, and safe sample management.
  • Exposure to immunoassay/allergen detection techniques and/or microbiological bioburden and culture methods.
  • High attention to detail with meticulous documentation habits and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, adapt between testing suites, and work well in a collaborative team.
